HEMPSTEAD ISD BOND UPDATES

Thank You, Hempstead ISD Community!

Hempstead ISD is thankful for the support of our community, which voters approved $45.7 million bond referendum to build a new Early Childhood Center, address aging facilities, and update safety and infrastructure. Thanks to your support, construction across the district is officially underway. This progress marks a major step forward in creating safer and modern learning environments for every Bobcat. We are grateful for your continued partnership as we work to bring these projects to life and invest in the future of our students, staff, and community.

Stay connected for more updates as bond projects begin at the site of the new early childhood center, the elementary campus, the middle school, and the high school.

Early Childhood Center

Construction is underway on the new Early Childhood Center, creating a modern, safe, and innovative space for our youngest Bobcats. This new facility will support early learning and provide classrooms designed specifically for pre-k students.

Elementary School

A new enclosed connector will link all four buildings at Hempstead Elementary School. This project will provide safer, weather-protected access for students and staff while enhancing the flow between classrooms, administration, and shared spaces.

Middle School

The addition of the auxiliary gym and enclosed connector at Hempstead Middle School will streamline access between the existing campus and the new gym, cafeteria, and band hall, ensuring students can move safely and efficiently throughout the campus.

These upgrades will support both athletics and fine arts, creating a more connected and secure environment for all students.

High School

The addition of a dedicated band hall and cafeteria at Hempstead High School will ensure that students no longer have to walk to an outside building, keeping them safely inside the campus.

These new facilities will support both fine arts and daily student life, fostering a more secure and cohesive learning environment.

The Hempstead High School baseball field concession stand and restroom buildings will also be replaced.

Additional Facility Updates

  • HVAC Unit Replacements, Control Upgrades, Testing & Balance Districtwide

  • Roof Replacement at Hempstead Middle School

Construction Timeline

The projects covered by the 2024 bond referendum will be undertaken from 2024 through completion. Some factors that impact the schedule are:

  • how imminently critical the need;
  • the volume and complexity of projects that can be effectively managed simultaneously;
  • economies of scale that can be achieved by bundling similar projects when doing so maximizes resources and is practical;
  • minimize interruptions to the campus environment.

This exciting development reflects the community’s commitment to creating safe facilities that support student success in academics, fine arts, and athletics.

The existing track and field, originally built in 1997, was completely replaced alongside the grass field, which will be upgraded to synthetic turf. The updated facilities will serve multiple sports teams, the band, and the dance and drill team throughout the school year, creating a space for both practice and competition.

Construction officially began on November 19, 2024, and was completed in April 2025.

  • Bobcat Stadium now features a modern synthetic turf field, a state-of-the-art track, and seating for nearly 3,000 fans, creating an energetic and comfortable experience for athletes and spectators.

  • The existing fieldhouse received significant upgrades, including improved locker rooms, enhanced training areas, and updated spaces for coaches and teams. A large new video scoreboard now anchors the stadium, adding excitement and energy to every Bobcat event.
