Dear Bobcat Families & Staff,
January is School Board Recognition Month, and I want to begin this message by expressing my heartfelt appreciation for our Hempstead ISD Board of Trustees. I am grateful for their unwavering dedication to our students, staff, and community. Did you know that serving on the Board of Trustees is an unpaid position? They do it purely because they care. This month provides an opportunity for all of us to show them how much we value their contributions. They work tirelessly to ensure appropriate governance in our district, and they have worked hard to provide raises for staff, maintain sound policies, and serve as excellent stewards of the district’s funds. Thank you, Trustees!
I would also like to give a big shoutout to Damian Vega-Stephens for making the All-State Band on the trombone. We have countless students achieving great things each day across our district, but earning an All-State recognition deserves a special shoutout. Damian is an outstanding student involved in a variety of activities at Hempstead High School. In addition, we recently celebrated student-athletes who made All-District in football, several students who earned industry-based certifications in Welding, and the continued success of our Early College High School students. Go Bobcats!
It is important that instruction stays at the forefront of all we do. Our goal is to ensure that every student receives high-quality teaching in every classroom, every day. We are implementing proven strategies, providing ongoing professional development for our teachers, and carefully monitoring progress to meet the needs of our learners. Whether through engaging lessons, innovative approaches, or targeted interventions, our commitment to instructional excellence remains at the heart of our mission: “to ensure every student has the necessary tools to attain their maximum potential and prepare them for success in college, career, military, and life by providing consistent, comprehensive, high-quality education.”
I hope you have had an opportunity to drive by Bobcat Stadium and see the progress. The construction is making great strides. We are currently finalizing the crucial design phase for the other bond projects and we can’t wait to share these exciting developments with you. We will provide updates through district communications and community meetings to ensure you are fully informed.
As we prepare to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, on Monday, January 20, I am inspired by his vision of hope, unity, and progress. His dream challenges us to continue striving for excellence, ensuring that every student in Hempstead ISD has the opportunity to thrive and make a meaningful impact on the world.
Thank you for your continued support! I truly appreciate each of you as we work together to climb to #HigherHeights.
With Bobcat Pride,
Herbert O’Neil
