We are incredibly thankful for our Hempstead ISD school bus drivers. Thank you for transporting our students to and from school and activities throughout the year. Happy School Bus Driver Appreciation Day!
Dear Bobcat Families & Staff,
I wanted to start this message off by recognizing our school bus drivers in Hempstead ISD. This week is School Bus Driver Appreciation Week and we want them to know how much we appreciate all the work they do for Hempstead ISD. Our bus drivers are the first staff members that many of our students see each morning and the last staff members they connect with before they go home each day. We thank them for safely transporting our students to and from school so that they can receive high-quality instruction in our classrooms. If you see a bus driver take time to thank them for all of the work that they do for our students and staff in Hempstead ISD. It is also National FFA Week and I want to acknowledge the hard work our agriculture students put in weekly to prepare for various competitions and our upcoming Hempstead FFA Project Show, on February 29 and March 1.
Last week, our Board of Trustees voted to call a $45.7 million bond to address safety and security updates and aging facilities across our district. Please take a moment to watch the video and read the news story so that you can be informed. Also, take some time to review the bond website for any questions you may have at this time. I will continue to provide more information so that you can be fully informed as we move forward. Additionally, we will be hosting community informational sessions in the coming months. I would like to take a moment to encourage you to verify that you are registered to vote. Early voting for the Primary Election is February 20-March 1 and Election Day is March 5. Voting is a great way to help shape the future of the community. If you are voting, showcase your I VOTED sticker with us by tagging #HempsteadVotes. We will feature your phone on our social media channels. For more information on voting you can visit the state voter registration website.
Our students across the district and even out of town have been representing Hempstead ISD in a great way. Our students have participated in various Black History Month celebrations, as well as excelling in co and extracurricular activities. Recently, our band students participated in the UIL Solo and Ensemble contest and earned Division I ratings. I am super proud of all of them. Three of those students will be going to the state competition. They are Damian Vega-Stephens on Trombone, Sleight Laesser on Bassoon, and Brianna Rodrigues on French Horn. We also have several students who advanced to regionals in powerlifting. They are Rihanna Dixon, Alyssa Tuck, and Paola Carillo. Finally, I want to recognize our Track & Field teams as they gear up for a competitive season. Let's not forget about Golf, Soccer, and Softball and Baseball that have started their seasons. I am super proud of all of our Bobcats who are excelling on and off the field. I encourage you to continue supporting these students at their games, meets, or tournaments this spring.
Thank you for being such a supportive community. It is a blessing to serve a community that truly cares about the school community and the education that their children are receiving. I appreciate the opportunity to serve. As we move forward this spring let’s continue that spirit of support, kindness, and collaboration that makes us so strong. Let’s go to #HigherHeights together!
With Bobcat Pride,
Herbert O’Neil

At the special called board meeting on February 15, the Hempstead ISD Board of Trustees unanimously voted to call a bond election that will be on the May 4 ballot. Registered voters residing within the Hempstead ISD boundaries will be asked to consider a $45.7 million bond referendum that would generate funding to address safety and security updates and aging facilities, such as replacements for roofs, electrical, and heating and air conditioning equipment.
The proposed projects touch every campus within our school district. The propositions also include infrastructure updates, a replacement campus for Hempstead Early Childhood, and improvements at Bobcat Stadium, including new synthetic turf field and track. The Board of Trustees has not gone to taxpayers for a bond issue since 2006. Read More
