Dear Bobcat Families & Staff,
The Spring semester is in full swing, bringing many exciting activities across our district. Students are actively learning, preparing for state assessments, and participating in a variety of extracurricular and co-curricular activities.
I want to give a big shoutout to all the students who participated in the Hempstead FFA Project Show. They represented our district exceptionally well and did an amazing job. I also want to express my gratitude to the many individuals and businesses who took the time to support our students by purchasing animals. Your generosity makes a lasting impact on our students and their future endeavors.
A special congratulations to Alaysia Tuck and Rhianna Dixon, who are heading to the Regional Powerlifting Meet. I am extremely proud of these two young ladies. We are also eagerly awaiting results from our boys' powerlifting team in their upcoming competitions.
Our HHS UIL One-Act Play will compete in its first contest of the year next Thursday, March 6, in Bay City, TX. We wish them the best of luck and know they will continue to make Hempstead ISD proud. A huge congratulations also goes to Damian Vega-Stephens, who was selected to participate in the All-State Band, which is a tremendous achievement.
Our spring sports season is officially underway. Baseball and softball have started their seasons strong, showing great promise on the field. Soccer continues to compete and represent Hempstead with pride, while track & field is kicking off this week, and we look forward to seeing our athletes excel in competition. It’s an exciting time for Bobcat Athletics, and we can’t wait to see our student-athletes shine.
I want to recognize Hempstead Elementary for hosting a fantastic Black History Month program. It was inspiring to see so many students involved in this meaningful event. As Black History Month comes to a close, let's continue to celebrate the contributions of Black Americans to this great country.
I would also like to personally invite you to the Hempstead ISD Spring Health & Wellness Fair on March 6. This free family event will feature engaging activities and wellness demonstrations. More details can be found below—we hope to see you there!
We are nearing the finish line in the design phase of the new Hempstead Early Childhood Center, as well as several upgrades, expansions, and safety improvements across our campuses. I am excited to begin sharing conceptual designs soon, so stay tuned to social media and our district updates for renderings. Also, if you haven’t seen the progress on the football field renovations, I encourage you to drive by and check it out; it’s looking great.
As we approach Spring Break, March 10-14, I want to encourage all parents and guardians to motivate their children to stay engaged in school every day. That means actively participating in class discussions, staying focused, and asking questions to enhance understanding. With the STAAR test approaching, we want to ensure every student shows growth and success on their assessments.
Thank you for your ongoing support of Hempstead ISD. Together, we will continue reaching #HigherHeights!
With Bobcat Pride,
Herbert O’Neil
